Herrera Library Catalog

Herrera Library 2009 - 2010

There are many ways the library enhances the learning experience of Herrera students.  I look forward to adding to this video as the year progresses.

Read for the Record Oct. 8th

Picture
Kindergarten classes were treated to guest readers Thursday, October 8th.  To celebrate reading and the 40th anniversary of Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Catepillar, each class got their own copy of the book.  We would like to thank the Pearson Co.'s for making this donation to all HISD schools.  Several of the classes had the opportunity to act out the story after they read the book together.

Thank you to the following guest readers:
Mr. Lara, City of Houston
Mr. Rodriguez,  HPD
Mrs. Lara, UHD Professor
Ms. Watson, HAT Counselor
Ms. Maese, HAT Magnet Coordinator
Ms. Salinas, HAT Reading Specialist

Story Book Opera

Picture
A member of the Houston Grand Opera read Westward Ho, Carlotta to Ms. Williams and Ms. Sander's PreK classes.  Students learned about opera.  They were able to show off their voices by answering questions in opera voice after the performance.

Texas Snakes in the Library

Picture
To give students real life experience with what they learn in the classroom, 2nd graders will learn about Texas snakes.  The Texas Snake man will visit the library in October and present to all 2nd grade classes.  Students will learn about the snakes, their environment and safety.

Book Fair Success

I would like to thank everyone who helped make the book fair a success.  Parents volunteered and worked in the book fair.  Teachers took their classes to the book fair.  Students came to the book fair and bought books.

We were able to raise money to buy new books for the library!

Volunteer In the Library!

The library is always in need of parent volunteers.  There are over 900 students in the library, which means every week there are at least 900 books to put back on the shelves in the library.  Mornings are the best time to volunteer.

Please contact Ms. Flores if you would like to volunteer in the library.
